
Krishna Institute of Engineering and Technology (KIET), Ghaziabad 18th October, 2007
The Central Library, Krishna Institute of Engineering and Technology (KIET), Ghaziabad has organized the first INDEST User Training Program on 18th October, 2007 (Thursday) to provide necessary training to access online journals, resources and library services to fresher students as well faculty. The program was scheduled in three groups for MCA, B. Tech. and faculty members from 11.30 a.m. to 4.45 p.m. About 850 students including 50 faculty members, and staff members of KIET, actively participated in the proceedings. Prof. G. S. Sandhu, Director, KIET the Chief Guest of the inaugural session stressed on maximum utilization of valuable e-resources and expressed his happiness for organizing such training program. Sh. Rajesh Kumar Bhardwaj, Librarian and convener of INDEST Consortium User Group has delivered the welcome speech and introduced the latest activities going on in the library. He has also presented the brief details about e-journals, subscribed through INDEST, DELNET services, and future e-subscriptions. Ms. Reeta Singhal, Deputy Librarian has convened the program and on behalf of the library team Ms. Kavita Singh, Deputy Librarian has delivered the vote of thanks to all guests and participants. Mr. Saibal Dutta and Mr. Kapil Kumar from GIST have presented the search technique of accessing e-resources i.e. IEE/IEEE and ASME and other facilities provided by the aggregators.
Delhi College of Engineering, Delhi (20th April, 2006)
Delhi College of Engineering, Delhi (DCE) The Central Library, Delhi College of Engineering, Delhi (DCE) organized the third convention for its users on the occasion of DCE Library Website hosting http://www.dce.edu/library on 20th April, 2006 (Thursday). About 150 delegates including faculty members, research scholars, students and staff members of DCE, actively participated in the proceedings. Prof. P.B. Sharma, Principal, DCE the Chief Guest, inaugurate the library website and expressed his happiness over advance features. He found the site very user friendly. Sh. R.K. Shukla, Librarian and convener of INDEST Consortium User Group has delivered the welcome speech and introduced the automation activities going on in
the library. He has also given the brief details about e-journals, databases subscribed through INDEST, DELNET services, and future e-subscriptions. Sh. Rajesh Kumar Bhardwaj, Assistant Librarian has demonstrated the Dspace (Digital Archiving Software), searching the database by various options. He has also delivered the vote of thanks to all guests and participants. On behalf of web management team Master Kanuj and Master Gagandeep have presented the various features of the website. Mr. Ashish from EduTech have presented the products and services of his firm which are available under INDEST Consortium
Delhi College of Engineering, Delhi (6th September, 2005)
The Central Library, Delhi College of Engineering, Delhi (DCE) organized the second convention for its users on e-resources on 6th September, 2005 (Tuesday). About 205 delegates including faculty members, research scholars, students and staff members of DCE, actively participated in the proceedings.Prof. P.B.Sharma,Principal, the Chief Guest of the inaugural session stressed on the need to maintain high speed connectivity for proper utilization of e-resources. Prof. Ashok De, Chairman, Library Advisory Committee describedthe development of e-resources in the library and stressed for maximum utilization of resources. Sh. R.K. Shukla, Librarian and convener of INDEST Consortium User Group explained the aims and objectives of INDEST Consortia and provide the statistics of e-resources usage at DCE. Sh. Rajesh Kumar Bhardwaj, Assistant Librarian delivered the welcome speech and vote of thanks. IIT Bombay
IIT Bombay organized a two day workshop on “Optimal Use of E-resources” on 27-28 May 2004. About 51 faculty members, research scholars and librarians from Engineering and Technology institutions, NITs and other organizations actively participated in the workshop. Prof. Ashok Misra, Director, IIT Bombay inaugurated the workshop. He underlined the need for a modern and well maintained library to acquire, organize and disseminate knowledge. Prof. S.C. Lakkad, Deputy Director and Prof. D.K. Sharma, Convener Library Committee also addresses the gathering. Mr. D. Jotwani, Librarian and Coordinator of the workshop welcomed the participants. Dr. Jun P Hong, Asia Pacific Library Services Executive, OCLC, USA made a lively presentation on e-books.
The demonstration on various full text and bibliographic databases subscribed by the INDEST Consortium viz. Science Direct, IEL Online, ACM Digital Library, Emerald Full text, SciFinder Scholar, Springer Link, Web of Science, INSPEC, COMPENDEX, JCCC etc. were carried out by their respective vendors/agencies.
NIT Calicut
Nalanda Digital Library of NIT Calicut conducted User Convention on e- resources on 19th and 20th March 2004. About 110 faculty members; research scholars and librarians of NIT Calicut and neighbouring institutions actively participated in the convention. Dr.K.R. Srivasthan, Director, IIITM-Kerala inaugurated the convention. He addressed the participants and cautioned them against the tendency of developing "intellectual casteism" based on the compartmentalization of knowledge from different disciplines. Dr. S.S. Gokhale, Director, NITC delivered the talk on 'Use of e-resources in class room teaching'. Dr. Jagdish Arora, National Coordinator, INDEST Consortium, highlighted the unique features of the INDEST Consortium funded by MHRD.

First User Convention, Sant Longowal Institute of Engg and Technology, Longowal
The Sant Longowal Institute of Engg and Technology, Longowal, organized its first User Convention of INDEST Consotium chaired by Dr. R.C.Chauhan, Director of the Institute, on 04.02.2004. About 75 faculty members, Post Graduate students and 10 Librarians from Engineering Institute from Punjab had attended the convention. Dr. A.S.Arora, Chairman Library Committee welcomed the delegates. The objectives & functions of Consortium were briefed by Mr. Sanjay Gupta, Librarian, Central Library SLIET, Longowal. The following publishers had made their presentations about their products and services being subscribed by the INDEST Consortium for IITs, IISc, NITs, SLIET and NERIST.

First User's Convention at North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST)
The Central Library, North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology, Nirjuli, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh organized the first convention for its users on e-resources on 31-01-2004 (Saturday). About 110 delegates including faculty members, research scholars, students and staff members of NERIST and Arunachal University registered and actively participated in the proceedings. Prof. S. K. Singh, the chief Guest of the inaugural session stressed on the need to maintain a reasonably good connectivity for proper utilization of e-resources. Prof. P. D. Kashyap, Chairman, Library Advisory Committee, described the aims and objectives of INDEST Consortia, Dr. K. K. Sasi, member NERIST INDEST Consortium Committee and convener of the program made the welcome speech and Mr. A. K. Gupta, Librarian, proposed the vote of thanks. The following publishers had made their presentations about their products and services being subscribed by the INDEST Consortium .

Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat
Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat organised its first user convention of INDEST Consortium on 14th Nov. 2003, inaugurated by Prof. A.K. Dave, Mechanical Engineering on behalf of Acting Director Prof. K.U. Joshi. Prof. Dave mentioned the importance of e-resources subscribed by MHRD through INDEST Consortium in his speech. Prof. H.S. Patil, Applied Mechanics explained the advantages of e-resources over traditional printed resources. Likewise Sri.T.B. Ghosh, Librarian and Co-ordinator Administration of INDEST Consortium User's Group Committee explained the details of e-resources available on subscription through INDEST Consortium and in the "Virtual Information Centre in Applied Science and Technology".
The Regional Manager of Global Information System Technology carried out demonstration of their products.
Following recommendations were made by the participants
- Higher bandwidth is desirable for fast access to the INDEST e-resources.
- The INDEST Consortium should continue the subscription of Science Direct, which is presently discontinued as it is most useful.
- Usage Statistics may be taken into account after Long term i.e., at least after one year of use.
The convention was concluded with vote of thanks to the Chair.
First User Convention, Pondicherry Engineering College, Pondicherry
The Pondicherry Engineering College organized its first user convention on “Accessing the INDEST resources” on 07/10/2003 at Pondicherry Engineering College inaugurated by Prof. Ethirajulu, Principal of the college. All faculty members, research scholars and postgraduate students attended the convention. The principal delivered a lecture on “Introduction to Research” in the inaugural function. K.Vivekanandan, User Commiittee co-ordinator has given brief introduction about INDEST CONSORTIUM followed by demostration and hands on sessions. The demonstration and hands on sessions were handled by the faculty members Mr. G.Sivaradje, Mr. G..R.K Ramakrahna and Mr. N.Sreenath.
The convention was attended by around 150 members. Many of the participants expressed the need for the access to any one of the digital libraries for the science subjects for the AICTE funded INDEST members. (As the AICTE funded college were not given the access to digital libraries such as Science Direct)
First User Convention, National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra
The NIT Kurukshetra organized its first User Convention of INDEST Consotium chaired by Dr. N.P.Mehta, Director of the institute, on 26.9.2003. About 80 faculty members and P G students attended the convention. The objectives & functions of Consortium were briefed by Mr. Krishna Gopal, Librarian, NIT Kurushetra. Following publishers made their presentations about their products and services being subscribed by the INDEST Consortium for NITs.

First User Convention, National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur
NIT Hamirpur (H.P), organised their user convention on 24.09.2003. The convention was chaired by Dr. Lalit Awasthi, HOD Computer Sc. & Engg. Deptt. The librarian welcomed the chairman, faculty members and the library staff and brought to their kind notice the information regarding the formation of user group at NIT Hamirpur. Dr. Lalit Awasthi as the chairman and the librarian as the convener will co-ordinate the user group constituting one faculty member from each deptt. as its members.
The chairman enlightened the gathering regarding the importance of r-resources through the INDEST Consortium in their research work and urged the faculty members to avail this facility at the maximum. Around 30 faculty members/library staff membres attended the convention.
The demonstrations on J-Gate & ASTP were carried out by the representatives of M/S Infomatics India in Computer Science Deptt.
